Longboard trucks are probably the most important part on the longboard. What the trucks do is that they hold the wheels and it also allows you to turn. There are a variety of separate brands of trucks available but it mainly depends on the performance. Most people prefer wider trucks so that it turns better and it can hold bigger wheels. I personally use the Gullwing Charger Trucks which are pretty good but there are also other good brands that you can buy from. Here are some brands that make really good trucks.
The most popular brand of trucks that people use are called Randal Trucks. Most of the Randal Trucks are around 11 inches. These trucks are one of the best ones available. If you want to try out another brand then you should get Paris Trucks. To be more specific, they are called Paris 180s and they are just as good as Randal Trucks. The third brand that is pretty good are the trucks that I use, Gullwing Charger Trucks. Gullwing Charger Trucks are just as good as Paris 180s and Randal Trucks. Only difference would be that they are 10 inches, but at least the perform just as well.
Here is a pretty good tip on the different brands of trucks. Like I said earlier most people use Randal Trucks while others use Paris Trucks or Gullwing Trucks. There are also other brands that some people might know such as Independent and Kingston. Those trucks are standard but the other ones are better. If you ever see any other brand of trucks then those brands aren’t even that good and I highly suggest you change it. Performance will make a big difference.
In case you’re wondering, the bearings and wheels don’t make a difference on the trucks. It’s the bushings that make a difference. With softer bushing, the board will turn sharper but you will have speed wobble. With speed wobble, when you go at a fast speed, your board will start to wobble which will then require you to have good balance. Otherwise you might fall down.
If you ever wanted to know what is inside the trucks, there are actually several little pieces which are important. The pieces are the nuts, washers, bushings, and trucks. If you are missing any of those pieces, then your longboard will not work and it will fall apart. The big piece which shows the brand are called the risers. The risers make the board stand up. Here is an idea of what inside the trucks should be. It should be (from top to bottom) nuts, washers, bushings, trucks, bushings, washers. If it is not in that order then you should fix it.
I highly suggest you have 10 or 11 inches trucks because with wider trucks, you can turn sharper, quicker, and be able to carve better. So if you have sizes below 10 inches, then you should consider upgrading to the trucks I mentioned earlier. Trust me, the performance will be improved significantly.
